Summer Reading and Discovering Beverly Cleary

We have been participating in the summer reading program at our local library. If you haven't found these programs for your kids during the summer, it's a must for next year. Not only can you read books for prizes, but there are usually weekly programs that you can attend to help break up your week. We learned today that our local library will have an after school reading program that start in September.

This summer, with help from the summer reading program, Alex discovered Beverly Cleary. Right now, he is finishing up Socks before moving on to Henry and the Paper Route. Alex asked me if we could keep going to the library to check out books when the summer reading program is over. I wonder if he will continue reading Beverly Cleary or find another author that he likes.

He needs to read a Judy Moody book. In the first book she is starting 3rd grade. It's a great series of books you should have Alex check them out since he will be a 3rd grader next year. I always read it to my students the first week of school. She is a tomboy so boys love it not just girls. Have you heard who his teacher is yet?

I vote for Hank the Cowdog. Much more manly! :-)
